PE
The PYP PE curriculum at TISA is designed to allow students to develop a range of transferable skills promoting personal, physical, mental and social development within a variety of sporting activities. From P3-P8 students will have fun learning and developing skills and techniques that will lay the foundations for long-term healthy living and continued participation in sport.

All primary students participate in two 45 minute periods of PE per week. Each unit is planned and assessed in line with the PYP arrangements documents and covers the seven essential strands marks out by the PYP: body control and spatial awareness, adventure challenge, athletics, movement to music, games, gymnastics and health-related activities.

In order for students to get the most out of their physical education, students are expected to come prepared to each class with their PE kit, appropriate footwear and water bottle.

  Miss Nicola Barclay
Curriculum coordinator

My name is Nicola (Nicky) Barclay; I am the curriculum coordinator for the PE department here at TISA.  I have been teaching physical education for 5 years. I am from Scotland and began teaching there. Before moving to Baku, I worked in both mainstream schools and in special education. I teach physical education as I am passionate about sport, exercise and keeping fit. I believe PE helps children develop personally, physically, mentally and socially, therefore it is a major part of their education. I aim to provide students with a positive experience in PE in order to promote life long participation in sport and exercise. Out with sport and education, I enjoy singing, playing guitar and travelling.

I enjoy working abroad and meeting people from different cultures.
I taught for 23 years in Tanzania, Vietnam, Ethiopia, Cambodia before coming to Azerbaijan in August 2010.
TISA has a great weekend sports program and I applaud the volunteers provide great coaching sessions to keep our children actively involved in the weekend.
