The Goal of the Humanities program at TISA is to develop a global understanding and balanced view of the world, both past and present, while also developing the skills needed for success in High School and University.
At TISA, MYP Humanities is taught as in integrated Social Studies, History and Geography course in all grades, with additional focuses on Economics and Psychology at the M5 level, and encompasses units where the content is drawn from the local environment.
The MYP encourages an international perspective by awakening in young people an interest in the cultures and attitudes of people with backgrounds different from their own; by making them aware of the fundamental, positive values of the common heritage of human beings; and by encouraging intercultural exchange.
“Inter-cultural awareness goes beyond mere tolerance of a polite attitude towards the ideas and artifacts of other cultures. It is positive, empathetic movement towards others, a readiness to act co-operatively in genuine exchange and shared effort. While respecting cultural differences and even celebrating the diversity that makes for the richness of life, the MYP also underscores that which we all share as human beings and promotes the unarguably universal values common to civilized societies.” (MYP Guide)
