In 2008-09 the TISA Model United Nations Club attended various international conferences to practice their debating and negotiating skills including the Cairo Model United Nations (www.cacmun.org) in October, and the Beijing Model United Nations Conference (www.beimun.org) in March. In addition to these for 2009-10, we are applying to attend the Qatar Harvard Model United Nations and the THIMUN in Singapore, run by The Hague’s longstanding Model United Nations program.
One of the best events this year, however, was the first Baku Model United Nations Conference, hosted by Baku Oxford School in December 2008, which we helped to coordinate and organize. Discussing the HIV situation and prevention of stigma against HIV positive people in our communities, our students spent the day preparing resolutions and debating solutions to the issue. M5 student Bryana Banashefski and M4 student Cameron Gilroy co-chaired this event with over 50 students from various Baku schools and universities participating.
