The English Department, in line with the philosophy of the IBMYP, aims to encourage students to be effective and confident communicators in a range of genres in a constantly changing and increasingly connected world by guiding them to strive to improve their ability to think, listen, write, speak clearly, read with understanding and appreciate literature.
In the English A (IBMYP) course from M1 – M5, students are exposed to a selection of literary and non-literary texts of increasing complexity and sophistication from a variety of cultural contexts ranging from traditional literary forms (poetry, short stories, novels, plays) to media genres (advertising, print media, documentaries, film, television).
IBMYP English A prepares students for higher education courses such as the IB Diploma and subsequently to university studies in all parts of the world. As part of our Post 16 Programme the department offers IB Diploma Language A- Language and Literature, where English is a student’s mother tongue or that the student speaks and understands as a native; and Language B, where English is a student’s second language.
