A new world opens up with the acquisition of a Foreign Language (we will be using the term Foreign Language as a synonym for Language B of the MYP). It enables the individual to discover different approaches to life, different ways to do things and express themselves. This develops respect and tolerance towards other cultures through understanding, which are attitudes stressed and strongly supported at TISA.

The Foreign Language Program at TISA strives to offer the students a holistic approach to the target language. This is achieved by integrating contents from other subject areas and the areas of interaction whenever and as much as possible considering the level of the students’ knowledge and ability in the target language.

The students are exposed to the culture of the countries where the target language is spoken through a variety of means: News programs, films, newspaper articles, class discussions with native speakers, songs, literature.

In the Middle School, the students who are fluent in or native speakers of English are required to take a Foreign Language or Language B. They will also be expected to continue studying the same Foreign Language throughout the five years of their Middle School education. The choices are between: French, Spanish and Russian.

At IB level TISA offers French B, Spanish B, Russian B Standard and Higher levels, Spanish Ab Initio.

In the Russian A (MYP) course from M1 – M5, students are introduced to a selection of literary texts of increasing sophistication from poetry, short stories, novels, plays.

MYP Russian A prepares students for higher education courses such as the IB Diploma. As part of Post 16 Programme the department offers IB Diploma Russian A1 Standard and Higher levels, where Russian is a student’s mother tongue or that the student speaks and understands as a native.
