On March 4th and 5th, TISA's middle school Speech & Debate club competed in the CEESA tournament, hosted by QSI Bratislava. Our brave team of 7 'newbies' trained, practiced and then recorded their events, which were then shared with QSIB and judged. The events were original oratory, impromptu and oral interpretation. Our students got excellent feedback and 2 of the team got to finals!
Ulkar M3
Aysha M3
Aida M1
Martina M1
Jeyla M1
Aras M1
Charlotte M1
Ulkar got to the finals for original oratory; her speech about transition from middle to secondary school was confident, very clearly expressed and shared many engaging examples.
Charlotte was faced with the impromptu topic of "Be the change you want to see in the world.' After a 90-second preparation period, she delivered a superb 3-minute speech exploring examples as diverse as the UN, scientists creating vaccines and improving essays. Charlotte was awarded the BRONZE medal!
Coaches Kitching, Joshi and Caskie were delighted to work with such an engaged group of speakers. The risk-taking and the resilience shown by our very young team was remarkable.
We look forward to a TISA debate competition in May!
