This week saw the conclusion of our celebration of TISA Literacy Month. Our theme, Oh, the Stories You’ll Tell, was a natural fit for TISA’s year-long integration of stories building on our celebrations of International Week and Festival of Languages.

Throughout April, we enjoyed a variety of activities and events which highlighted our community’s love of reading, writing, and listening to amazing stories. One of these events was the Family Pajama Party Literacy Evening where parents and students donned their favorite jammies, enjoyed a mug of hot cocoa donated by our PTA, and participated in a variety of activities led by staff and students. The party was not only for Primary School students, either - Secondary School students joined the fun by leading sessions for their younger friends and many decided to stick around and participate in a session or two themselves. Sessions included multilingual readings, bookmark making, and digital books.

TISA also welcomed storyteller Niall de Burca as part of our celebration. Niall spent three days captivating audiences with his performances. From traditional tales to memories of his childhood, Niall showed our community how powerful a good story can be. During his visit, he managed to see every one of our students from the Nursery up through our DP2’s, offered a professional development session for staff, and wowed a group of parents during a special evening performance. Whether he was giggling with the ELC children or sharing important life advice with the DP young adults, Niall’s stories were always perfectly-tuned to the age and interest levels of his audience. This visit was made possible by the generous support of our PTA.
