What matters is not the absorption and regurgitation either of facts or of pre-digested interpretations of facts, but the development of powers of the mind or ways of thinking which can be applied to new situations and new presentations of facts as they arise. Broad, Rigorous and Relevant, the MYP is a curriculum framework grounded in concepts that provide both interdisciplinary breadth and disciplinary depth within an authentic, real-world context. Students are assessed in eight disciplines, as well as in their interdisciplinary synthesis skills. The MYP program also requires that students act on what they learn through Service as Action. The MYP curriculum is delivered through units of inquiry, which allow students to learn by asking and seeking the answers to challenging questions.

Subject Areas: The MYP curriculum is broad allowing students to the following disciplines in each year of the course.

  • Language and Literature (English and Russian)

  • Language Acquisition (French, Spanish, Russian, Azerbaijani)

  • Individuals and Societies

  • Sciences

  • Mathematics

  • The Arts (Visual Art, Music, Drama)

  • Physical and Health Education

  • Design


Approaches to Learning: The MYP helps students learn how to learn. The Approaches to Learning are taught explicitly in all subject areas and help to build both academic skills and character.

  • Communication skills

  • Social skills: collaboration

  • Self-management skills: organization, affective, reflection

  • Research skills: information literacy and media literacy

  • Thinking skills: critical thinking, creative thinking, transfer
